All of my Bodkins are made with Stainless Steel spikes so they will last a lifetime and will stay looking as they did when you received it. I could make them of low carbon steel but it would darken and rust over time with use. The handles are made of hard wood selected to hold up well to years of use.
If you are looking for a starter Bodkin this is the one that I recommend.
This bodkin has a revolutionary handle shape that aims to elevate the weaver’s experience. This tool is not just an accessory; it embodies a tradition inspired by the craftsmanship of the 1800s.
I started out making my handles in a shape that I saw other makers in Europe were using. Then as I was using one of my files it hit me that that handle was super conferrable to use. I had copied that handle from one I had seen in a picture that saw filers used up until machines took over. These men had a file in their hands for 8 or more hours a day and they needed one that was not only felt good in the hand but gave them control of the tool. I made or turned some on the lathe. Sent them the ones I liked out to some of the top weaving instructors (my option) in the country. They gave input and after a few weeks I had a handle that everyone liked and I think will stand up to the use that weavers demand.
I have had such a positive response to the new improved handle that it is now my default all of my bodkins.

As a basket maker I enjoy using this beautifully designed “Easy grip bodkin” due to the special shape of the handle. The unique grip helps when opening spaces in your work and provides an extra anchor to assist pulling the bodkin out. It is ergonomically designed to fit nicely in your hand, as well as being elegant and super durable. A bodkin is an important tool for willow basketry and I recommend this version for extra hand comfort.
